American Kidney Fund Raises Awareness, Honors Kidney Heroes during National Kidney Month
The American Kidney Fund (AKF) kicked off its annual celebration of National Kidney Month with initiatives designed to raise awareness of kidney disease and the importance of prevention and early detection.

AKF’s initiatives, programs and events during the month of March will help to further the organization’s outreach to all Americans who are at risk of, or living with, kidney disease—our nation’s ninth leading cause of death.  AKF’s observance will include kidney disease prevention events in select cities; an advocacy day on Capitol Hill; a new Kidney Heroes podcast series; and an interactive National Kidney Month webpage.

When I was first diagnosed with lupus, 13 years ago, my life had already begun to fall apart. I was having difficulty keeping up with teenage life. I wasn't able to stay up late from the fatigue. My body hurt in ways I couldn't describe. It wasn't until I decided to contact the Lupus Foundation of America, Greater Florida Chapter, that my life changed for ever.
