Workplace Giving Makes Sense

According to a poll by the Gallup organization, the ability to direct contributions to specific charities is the most significant factor in determining employee satisfaction with workplace giving programs. This approach is exactly what Community Health Charities of Arizona is all about!

Benefits of Giving at Work

We often get asked, "Isn't it better to give directly to the charity, rather than through my workplace campaign?" Click here to learn some of the benefits of giving at work; benefits for the charities, the donors and the workplace.

Benefits to Donors:

  • Confidence in participating charities: Charities participating in workplace campaigns are carefully screened, usually in adherence to a strict set of guidelines and an application process set in place by the employer.
  • Donors can give more through payroll deduction: The option of having a small amount deducted from a biweekly payroll enables donors to give more to the charities of their choice, over a longer period. This is the perfect way to make a larger contribution and pay for it in the "installment plan.
  • Payroll deduction is an efficient way to track charitable contributions for tax purposes.

Benefits to Charities:

  • A steady, reliable, year-round income source for charities: And, because charities can be assured of year-round funding, the recipients of needed services are assured of year-round assistance.
  • Workplace giving is more cost-effective and efficient for charities: The cost of participating in a workplace giving campaign is far below the cost that would be incurred if participating charities had to launch any type of campaign to try to raise an equal amount of money. Charities can spend more time and resources on services and programs rather than elaborate fundraising.
  • Charities benefit by receiving a portion of "undesignated" campaign funds: Charities that receive contributions through workplace giving are eligible to receive a portion of "undesignated funds." Donors can help the charities of their choice by giving through their workplace campaign and in essence, increasing the value of their contribution.
  • Participation at workplace charity fairs and events broadens charities' community outreach by placing them in touch with those that may directly or indirectly benefit from their services.

Benefits to the Workplace:

  • Provides a valuable service to employees by offering the opportunity to give back to the community and creates awareness among employees of the breadth and reach of charitable services in the community.
  • Allows the workplace to become a "good neighbor" and community partner in the area where it operates.
  • Less disruption to the workplace by having a single charitable drive annually.

Give at work:

How: If your employer supports an charitable giving campaign during the year, it is an opportunity for employees to donate to a charity or charities of their choice through their employee giving campaign in their workplace.

Where: Give through your workplace giving campaign is as easy as sitting at your own desk. Typically your colleagues, who volunteer during the campaign, can provide you with a brochure and a pledge form. You can support a Community Health Charities of Arizona member agency simply by designating them.

When: Workplace giving campaigns traditionally take place each fall from approximately mid-September through mid-November. This is your opportunity to donate.

How: Donors can choose to give through payroll deduction or a one-time gift. To learn more about payroll deduction, speak to your human resources department or the designated campaign representative at your workplace.

Many Americans give at work by directing a portion of their paycheck to the charities of their choice, which makes workplace giving the most effective and efficient form of fundraising.  Giving at work has great advantages for both the employees who participate and the employers who conduct a workplace giving campaign.
