May is a wonderful time here in Arizona. The beautiful weather and fun outdoor activities bring us all much joy and let us know that summer is fast approaching! Along with that summer fun is our not so wonderful dry summer heat. Thankfully, the modern convenience of air conditioning makes the hot summer months quite bearable here in the desert, though we are not without need for extra precautions. Please don’t forget how important it is to your well being to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, and limit your exposure to the sun during the hottest time of day.
May is an exciting month for many reasons. For some it signals the end of school and for others it brings the long anticipated graduation ceremony. May is also Huntington’s Disease Awareness and ALS Awareness Month. There are also several events taking place that help support our member agencies. We encourage you to attend, or better yet volunteer for, one of our members this month.
Community Health Charities of Arizona would also like to recognize American Express. At our February Corporate Thank You Event with the Phoenix Coyotes, American Express was the recipient of our Champions in Health Award. You can read more about the award in this month’s newsletter.

Individuals at risk include those that are overweight or obese, or have diabetes, high triglycerides (type of fat found in the blood) or high cholesterol. Some individuals with no risk factors can develop NAFLD.
